014: How can I get new software added to a computer lab?
Only faculty and staff may request installation of new software. Student requests may be transmitted through faculty and staff. All requests may be submitted through Mines Help Center (http://helpdesk.mines.edu).
Campuswide and departmental computer labs are typically updated ("rebuilt" or "reimaged") twice a year. Therefore, a lead time as great as six months may be needed to add a new program to the current configuration (also known as a "build").
For easy reference, the deadline to request new software has been set as the last student withdrawal date of the previous semester. Thus, changes for summer session must be made by the last withdrawal date in the preceding spring semester, and so on. See the Mines Academic Calendar (http://catalog.mines.edu/calendar/) for specific dates. Requests made as early as possible are appreciated. After the deadline, changes may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis if possible; however, this may not always be possible due to staffing limitations.
Only property licensed software will be considered for installation. In some cases, the software license for installation in a lab may be different from license terms applied to individuals.
