Question or Problem:  What is a Mines MultiPass?
How do I activate my MultiPass?
How do I reset/change my MultiPass?
Solution:Your Mines MultiPass is a password that is used with your campus username to grant you access to multiple accounts or services on campus.

Some of the accounts or services that use MultiPass for authentication are:
  • Student/Cluster Email system including access to webmail, quota check, and login to Imagine (imagine.mines.edu)
    • Your MultiPass is not used for MyMail access
    • MultiPass will be used for the Student/Cluster email system until all students are migrated to MyMail and all faculty and staff are migrated to ADIT/Exchange.
  • Login to update your Mines Personal web page or departmental web site on Illuminate (illuminate.mines.edu)
    • Your MultiPass does not give you access to the Content Management System - CMS
  • Network Registration forms (eg, CSM Wireless, IP Requests, etc)
  • Campus VPN services
  • Campus software downloads (e.g., Symantec AntiVirus)
  • Campus modem services
  • Linux servers (e.g., Voodoo, LON CAPA) or labs in some departments (e.g. Physics, MCS, Geophysics)

Not all services on campus use your MultiPass. Some notable campus systems that have their own password authentication are:

SystemDescription/Access
ADIT DomainMost campus computer labs; most departmental PCs; faculty and staff email; CCIT Mac lab
IS Domain (Administrative)Administrative office PCs and Exchange mail; smattering of other things
MyMailMyMail (Mines-branded gmail)
TrailheadTrailhead (campus portal). Also provides access to Vacation/Sick Leave; Chem Search; DiggerNet; National Student Clearinghouse; Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
BlackboardBlackboard
BannerINB, e~Print, ODS (Discoverer Plus and Discoverer Viewer)

Over time, CCIT will be moving more services to use MultiPass for authentication, but some separate systems will exist. To help with multiple system and multiple passwords, CCIT is developing a Mines Unified Password Changing Tool that will allow users to use a web page to set the same password for multiple systems. (We are estimating this will be ready sometime during Fall 2009.)

To activate your MultiPass you will need your campus username and EKey:
To reset/change your MultiPass you will need your campus username and either your EKey or current MultiPass:
Notes:Former names for MultiPass:
CCIT is in the process of updating their web pages to reflect the name change from "Academic Computing & Networking (AC&N)" to "Computing, Communications and Information Technologies (CCIT)" and the change to MultiPass. In the meantime, if you find web pages that refer to "AC&N Email Username and Password", "Email Username & Password" or "Kerberos Username & Password", use your MultiPass!

Why? Due to recent and upcoming changes to improve Mines email services, the name "AC&N Email Username and Password" is/will no longer be accurate. If we continue to use this terminology, things will become even more confusing. While most current students' email use their MultiPass to access their email, by January 2010 MultiPass will not be used for any Mines email service but will continue to be used to access other services. To illustrate, here is a table showing past, present and near future of Mines email services and who uses which service:
