Help with Standards
American Petroleum Institute (API)
Through the API Engineering Partnership program (a joint venture between API and IHS), Mines students have access to API standards.
To access the standards:
- Point your web browser to IHS.
- Click "Subscriber Login."
- Click "IHS Standards Expert."
- Enter API and your standard number in "Document Number" OR select API in "advanced filters" and search for keywords.
American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
Most recent standards are in Reference TA401 .A653. To use the standards:
- Locate the index volume 00.01. Find your standard by its number (gray section) or subject (white section).
- Identify the four digit number (e.g., 04.09) that indicates what volume is needed.
- Locate your volume.
Need an older ASTM? The Library has back to the 1920s (scattered volumes missing). Ask at Reference or the Front Desk for assistance.
Searching for Standards
Library Catalog -- We have a few standards other than ASTM. Look for either the title or the number of the standard. Some standards may be dated.
Prospector (regional catalog) -- In the area University of Colorado at Boulder Engineering Library has the largest standard collection. Some of the standards are cataloged.
IHS -- Search engine and a source to purchase standards.
Document Center Inc. -- Search engine and a source to purchase standards.
NSSN -- Search engine for standards provided by ANSI.
ASSIST -- Access to many defense and federal specifications and standards.
Standard Sharing Program
In collaboration with University of Colorado at Boulder Engineering Library, we are able to provide access to most standards. All requests must be made through Reference. On average it takes 8 business days to receive a standard.
