Mines Email Configuration for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

These instructions were last tested with iOS 8.4.1. If you are using a different iOS version and your experience does not match these instructions, contact the CCIT Technology Support Center at 303.384.2345, visit the TSC in CT 156 for in-person help, or submit a support request to the Mines Help Center "Helpdesk" at http://helpdesk.mines.edu.


CONFIGURE AN iOS (APPLE) DEVICE FOR NATIVE EXCHANGE EMAIL (PREFERRED)

Please note: These instructions apply only to faculty and staff "@mines.edu" Exchange email accounts. Configuration information for MyMail "@mymail.mines.edu" student accounts is posted below.

  1. On your Apple phone or tablet tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Exchange.
  2. Enter the following information:
    1. Email: Your full Mines email address, in the form username@mines.edu
    2. Password: Your email password
    3. Description: Leave as is, or provide a more descriptive label like "My Mines Email."
  3. Tap Next to verify your information.
  4. A message may tell you that iOS "cannot verify server identity." If so, tap Details > Trust. If not, proceed to the next step.
  5. A message may tell you that your submitted information can not be verified. If so, tap Save and proceed to the next step.
  6. Insert the following information on the next screen:
    1. Server: exchange.mines.edu
    2. Domain: adit 
    3. Username: Your regular Mines username (the part of your email address to the left of @mymail.mines.edu)
    4. Password: Your email password
    5. Description: Again, you can leave this as is or change to a more descriptive label.
  7. Tap Next to verify your account information.
  8. Choose Mail and any other services (Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes) that you wish to sync with the Exchange server. Tap Save.
  9. Open your iOS Mail app. You should begin to receive Exchange email momentarily. If you receive a "Connection to the mail server failed" message, try again.


OR, CONFIGURE AN iOS (APPLE) DEVICE FOR IMAP (NOT RECOMMENDED)

  1. On your Apple phone or tablet tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter the following information:
    1. Name: Your given name. This will be seen by recipients of your emails.
    2. Email: Your full Mines email address, in the form username@mines.edu
    3. Password: Your email password
    4. Description: Leave as is, or provide a more descriptive label.
  3. Tap Save to verify your information.
  4. A message may tell you that iOS "cannot verify server identity." If so, tap Details > Trust. If not, proceed to the next step.
  5. A message may tell you that your submitted information can not be verified. If so, tap Save and proceed to the next step.
  6. Tap IMAP if it is not already selected (blue).
  7. Insert the following information in the "Incoming Mail Server" area:
    1. Hostname: exchange.mines.edu
    2. Username: Your Mines username (the part of your email address to the left of "@mines.edu")
    3. Password: Your email password
  8. Insert the following information in the "Outgoing Mail Server" area:
    1. Hostname: exchange.mines.edu
    2. Username: Your Mines username (the part of your email address to the left of "@mines.edu")
    3. Password: Your email password.
  9. Tap Next to verify your account information.
  10. Choose Mail and any other services (Notes) that you wish to sync with the Exchange server. Tap Save.
  11. Open your iOS Mail app. You should begin to receive Exchange email momentarily. If you receive a "Connection to the mail server failed" message, try again.

CCIT recommends that you configure your iOS device to use Exchange server in native mode (not IMAP mode). By doing so, you will be able to synchronize your device with more Exchange services. And should you lose your device, CCIT can remotely erase your settings so that your personal data is not compromised. This is not available when using IMAP settings.
 

CONFIGURE AN iOS (APPLE) DEVICE FOR STUDENT MYMAIL

Students can configure iOS Mail to work with their MyMail email accounts.

  1. On your Apple phone or tablet tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Google.
  2. You will be asked to sign in with your Google Account.
    1. Enter your full email address in the form username@mymail.mines.edu
    2. Leave the password field blank for now.
    3. Tap Sign In.
  3. You should be redirected to a new login page.
    1. Enter only your username, without the "@mymail.mines.edu" portion. Do not use your full email address as the username in this case.
    2. Enter your MyMail web login password.
    3. Tap Sign In.
  4. You will be prompted to allow access from your iOS device. Tap Accept to do so.
  5. Choose Mail and any other services you wish to synchronize with your MyMail account. Tap Save.
  6. Your account should be ready to use. It may take a few minutes for all messages to be downloaded.
