VMware Academic Program - Download VMware Software for Students and Faculty

Fall Semester 2017 begins Monday August 21st

New department rosters will be generated for Fall Semester 2017 on Monday August 21st.  A second roster will be generated on Wednesday 9/6 after Census Day. This allows for the inevitable changes in schedules.  If you are new to Mines, or new to this program, your account may not have been created yet.  If you are eligible as explained below, please enter a Mines Help Center request at http://helpdesk.mines.edu, and we can add you manually.  However, consider waiting a bit as you will be added automatically when the department rosters are generated.

Academic Licensing Overview Summary

The VMware Academic Program (VMAP) subscription allows eligible students and faculty members to download selected VMware software that has been made available to participants in the program. For students, eligibility to use these services is based on taking classes in one of the STEM departments during the current semester. For Faculty, eligibility to access the program services is for instruction or non-commercial research programs in one of the qualified (STEM) departments. The effect is to allow qualified individuals to download many VMware titles at no direct cost to the individual.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get an account?

Each semester, course rosters are pulled from the participating departments on the first day of classes. A second roster is pulled the Monday following Census Day to allow for the inevitable changes in schedules.  These rosters are used to automatically create new accounts, update existing accounts, and deactivate accounts that are no longer eligible.

How do I download the software?

Please visit the following URL and click "Sign In" at the top of the page:

VMware Webstore

Your username is your @mines.edu email address.  For example, astudent@mines.edu.  Please note that even if your email address is astudent@mymail.mines.edu, your username for VMAP is still astudent@mines.edu.

Your initial password was sent to you at the time your account was created.

Once logged in, click "Home" at the top of the screen.  You will then be presented with a screen of popular downloads, but you can search for specific software using the "Product Search" at the top of the screen.  You can see all available software by clicking "All" under the "Categories" list.  Please note that the Secure Download Manager will only run on a Windows operating system or Windows virtual machine. We recommend that you immediately burn the software onto CD as there is a limit to the number of times you can download each application, and your future eligibility to access the site may change as your course enrollment changes during future semesters.

How do I change my password?

Please visit the following URL and click "Sign In" at the top of the page:

VMware Webstore

Once logged in, click "Your Account" at the top of the page, then click "Change Password" and follow the on-screen instructions.

I have forgotten my password!

Please visit the following URL and click "Sign In" at the top of the page:

VMware Webstore

Under "Registered User Sign-In", click "Forgot your password?", then type in your username and click "Submit".  Please note that even though your email address may be astudent@mymail.mines.edu, your VMAP username is astudent@mines.edu.

Where can I get more help?

Please visit the following URL and click "Help" at the top of the page:

VMware Webstore

If you still have questions, please submit a Mines Help Center Support Request at http://helpdesk.mines.edu.

Note:

VMware Fusion (Mac) or Workstation (Windows) products do not include the licenses or installation files for the guest operating system. You will still need to acquire a suitable operating system to run within the virtual machines created. Microsoft operating systems (Windows, Server, etc.) are available to eligible students and faculty through the Microsoft Imagine Premium Program (formerly Microsoft Dreamspark Premium or MSDNAA). For information about accessing the Microsoft software available, please visit our Microsoft Imagine Premium page.
