Apply to Be a Student Consultant

Applying to become a CCIT Student Consultant

Applying for a position on the CCIT Student Consultant team is easy.  It's important to note that we are primarily a customer service organization.  Therefore, people and communication skills are even more important than technical computing skills to be a successful team member.

If you think you'd like to join our team:

  • Requirements:
    • You must be a full time student, which means enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (6 hours in summer)
    • You must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
    • You absolutely must be able to reliably and regularly work your assigned shifts, which will be scheduled around your other academic activities.
    • A good attitude and an outgoing personality that enables you to enjoy working with people.
    • You must meet the requirements of the Human Resources Department to be employed on campus.

  • What's not required?
    • You do not need to be a CS or Math major. All majors are encouraged to apply.
    • You do not need to be an undergraduate student. Graduate students are encouraged to apply.
    • You do not need to be a computer "whiz."  We have on the job training, and as mentioned above, customer service skills are far more important in this position
    • While preferred, work study funding is not required.  This may be one of the only student jobs (that include undergraduates) on campus paid from department funds, which makes these positions highly desirable and competitive.

If you feel that you meet these requirements,

  • Send the following information to T.J. Tremblay, Technology Support Center Manager, at
    • A brief cover letter explaining why you would like to become a student consultant.
    • A copy of your resume.  Include all jobs, even if not technical, and any other experiences that highlight teamwork, working with people, or customer relations.
    • An estimate of the number of hours a week you'd like to work. Generally, freshmen/women work no more than 6 -10 hours a week, depending on class load and schedules. No student may work more than 20 hours a week while in school.
    • A copy of your schedule for the semester for which you are applying, if known.
  • Another method...
    • CCIT Student Consultants are generally hired just before the beginning of each semester, as our present staff transitions to other jobs, graduates, etc.  At that time, a Diggernet ad will be posted, and you may apply thru that system as well.

However, applications are accepted year round.

  •  What will happen then?
    • Once your application is received, it will be reviewed.  If you seem a likely candidate, you will be contacted for an interview.  Either way, every effort is made to respond to all applicants.

We look forward to hearing from you!
